Bakken Directory Winter 2015: North Dakota Petroleum Council announces scholarships

The North Dakota Petroleum Council announced the recipients of the 2014 Al Golden Scholarships, which are awarded each year to North Dakota students who are pursuing a post-secondary education in geology, engineering, processing plant technology, science, technology or other careers related to the oil and gas industry. The NDPC increased the number of $1,000 scholarships available from five last year to nine.

The 2014 Al Golden Scholarship recipients are: Yonis Ibrahim Aliyow who is pursuing a degree in petroleum engineering from the University of North Dakota; Ashley Bohrer, a second year student at Bismarck State College where she is pursuing a degree in chemical engineering; Jaffer Deane, after hearing and reading about the oil boom in North Dakota and the new petroleum engineering program developed at UND, decided to pursue the opportunity and enrolled at UND; William “Billy” Eerdmans is a junior attending UND and is majoring in petroleum engineering; Matt Jahner is a student in the petroleum production AAS program at BSC and plans to also work toward a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in energy management; Kristen Lorenz attends North Dakota State University and is a senior working towards a bachelor’s degree in geology; Sean Ternes is a junior attending NDSU and majoring in geology; Wade Rath-Wald graduated in May with an Associates in Applied Science degree in process plant technology from BSC and will continue his education at BSC this year to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in energy management; Ben Munson is a senior in the geology program at NDSU and is also pursuing a second degree in natural resources management.
