A wind project near Healy in Interior Alaska took a big step forward the week of June 25 with the shipping of components for 12 turbines from Anchorage.
The trucks carrying the components for the Eva Creek Wind Project will only travel at night. The turbine blades, which are 148 feet long, were shipped to Whittier and transported by rail to Healy. They began arriving June 15.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://is.gd/nqKkbt) says the erection process is expected to take six to seven weeks and should be completed Aug. 31. The total height of the turbine structures will be 410 feet.
Golden Valley Electric Association says the turbines are capable of producing slightly less than 25 megawatts, which translates to 77 million kilowatt hours per year.
