Arctic Directory: CH2M HILL Alaska awarded Port of Anchorage bid

CH2M HILL, a global leader in consulting, design, design-build, operations and program management, was named the new manager for the renovation of the Port of Anchorage in a 9 to 1 vote at the Anchorage Assembly.

The Port of Anchorage is a deepwater port located in Anchorage, Alaska, with four bulk carrier berths and two petroleum berths. The POA is an enterprise in the Municipality of Anchorage because it can create enough revenue to support its own operations as well as pay annual fees to the municipality. Around 90 percent of the goods in the state of Alaska pass through the port, making it an integral part of the infrastructure in the state of Alaska. To sustain the continuing amount of traffic through the port, a large project to expand and renovate the port was undertaken. Due to concerns over cost and questions about the engineering design the port expansion was halted.

CH2M HILL will now take over where the previous contractors left off on this multimillion dollar project.
