Arctic Directory: Solstice Advertising wins prestigious national award

Solstice Advertising said June 24 that it has won a Silver Anvil for a campaign promoting energy efficiency in Alaska. The Silver Anvil recognizes the top public relations campaigns from around the country and is the most prestigious award given in the industry. Solstice received top honors in the public service-government category for its energy awareness month campaign for the Alaska Energy Authority and Alaska Energy Efficiency Partnership.

Energy efficiency is a delicate message in Alaska, a state where energy costs can be staggering but resource development is a major economic driver. Solstice’s October 2012 campaign — “Save Energy. Save Money. You have the power” — dispelled common energy myths, educated Alaskans about energy efficiency behaviors and encouraged people to become more efficient. One in three Alaskans had the potential to be exposed to the campaign and during October, enrollment in the state’s flagship Home Energy Rebate Program increased by approximately 46 percent.

Presented by the Public Relations Society of America, Silver Anvil winners reflect professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness. This year, a record-breaking 847 applicants entered and 144 were selected as finalists. Winners were announced June 13, at an awards ceremony in New York City. Only a handful of Alaska agencies have ever been named finalists.
