Denali begins pre-filing process at FERC

Denali—The Alaska Gas Pipeline Project, the joint venture of BP and ConocoPhillips announced earlier this year, has begun the pre-filing process for certification at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Denali pipeline, like the TransCanada Alaska proposal submitted under the governor’s Alaska Gasline Inducement Act, would take North Slope natural gas to North American markets.

In a June 15 letter, Bud Fackrell, the newly named president of Denali, asked FERC for permission to use pre-filing procedures and said FERC staff suggested initiating the pre-filing process this early to enable Denali and FERC to exchange information and coordinate planning and activities to ensure a timely and efficient application development and review process.

Fackrell said that the request is being made much earlier in the process than normal. “Because of the scope of the Denali Project, project design and application development will require a much longer time period (approximately 36 months) than is typically the case.”
