Buccaneer gets Cosmo spill plan approved

Buccaneer Energy Ltd. is on the verge of drilling at Cosmopolitan.

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation has approved a spill plan for a local subsidiary of the Australian independent to drill at the offshore Cook Inlet prospect.

The plan allows Buccaneer to drill at Cosmopolitan between April 15 and Oct. 31. An additional spill plan covering the winter months remains under review, according to the DEC. The approved plan would also cover summer drilling at Southern Cross or Northwest Cook Inlet, the two offshore units Buccaneer operates in the upper Cook Inlet.

Furie plans to drill in Cook Inlet in June

Furie Operating Alaska plans to start drilling its Kitchen Lights No. 3 well in Alaska’s Cook Inlet in June, Damon Kade, the company’s president, told Petroleum News April 12. The well will be a gas well, designed to prove out a gas discovery made when drilling the Kitchen Lights No. 1 well in 2011 and further investigated by the drilling of the Kitchen Lights No. 2 well in 2012, Kade said. Furie also plans to drill a fourth well in its Kitchen Lights unit, this time a deeper oil exploration well, during the second half of this year’s drilling season, he said. The company has not yet decided on which location to use for that well, he said.
