This morning Oil Search said it spud the Mitquq 1 exploration well on Dec. 24, using Nabors 7ES rig.
The well, which was spud approximately 5.6 miles from the planned Nanushuk Central Processing Facility location in the Pikka unit, will test Cretaceous Brookian sandstone (Nanushuk) analogues east of the unit for the prospect's potential as a tie-back to planned Pikka infrastructure.
Secondary targets for the North Slope well "may be penetrated to evaluate exploration upside within the Torok, Kuparuk C and Alpine C reservoirs," the company said.
Future activities include drilling ahead to evaluate prospectivity within the wellbore and drilling a sidetrack to an offset location for further reservoir evaluation.
