Janet Weiss has been named regional president of BP Alaska, succeeding John Minge who has been named chairman and president of BP America Inc. Weiss’ appointment is effective Feb. 15, BP said in a statement issued this morning. Minge has headed BP’s Alaska business since Jan. 1, 2009. In his new position he will be based in Houston and will be BP’s lead representative in the U.S. Weiss is currently regional vice president, resources, in Alaska, responsible for resource progression and subsurface activities, BP said. Weiss holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Oklahoma State University and has held engineering and executive posts in Alaska and the Lower 48. Weiss began her career in Alaska in 1986, and has worked in Alaska as a process engineer, reservoir engineer, petroleum engineer and reservoir engineering advisor. Executive appointments include VP of special projects for BP Exploration & Production and VP for unconventional gas technology.
