Doyon 26, the largest mobile land rig in North America, will begin drilling the Fiord West prospect from the Alpine CD2 drill site early this summer.

In an email this morning, Rebecca Boys, senior advisor, communications, at ConocoPhillips Alaska, said before the company shut down last year (early because of COVID-19 concerns), the big extended reach drilling rig had been assembled at CD2 and rig commissioning activities were underway.

"The rig stayed cold stacked through the remainder of 2020 and into the first part of this year," she said. "The commissioning and start up will take 90 days and will start this week."

Start-up activities include "rig crew onboarding, equipment commissioning, and final acceptance testing," Boys said.

"The planned spud date for the first Fiord West Kuparuk well is early summer," she said.
