Petro-Canada applies to shoot 2D

Petroleum News

Petro-Canada has applied to the Alaska Division of Oil and Gas for a geophysical exploration permit to shoot a 2D seismic survey in the foothills area of the North Slope. The state said a 1,200-mile 2D seismic survey is proposed in the general area between Umiat, the Gates of the Arctic National Park and the Dalton Highway. The program will use vibrators as the energy source and includes 55 line miles using explosives as the energy source. The explosives test will provide information on data quality and acquisition techniques suited to the geological targets in the area.

The work will be done over two winter seasons, 2004-05 and 2005-06, between the Sagavanirktok and Okpikurak rivers in the foothills of the Brooks Range, with access from the vicinity of Happy Valley on the Dalton Highway south of Deadhorse.
