ARCO seeks bids for Indonesia LNG plant

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

Atlantic Richfield Co. said late last month that it has asked companies to bid on the design of a liquefied natural gas plant in Indonesia. The plant is part of the $4 billion Tangguh project to liquefy Indonesian natural gas for export.

ARCO had considered contracting with Inti Karya Persada Teknik, but elected to start a new bidding process following the recent change of government in Indonesia. IKPT is controlled by a friend of former Indonesian President Suharto. The company will be eligible to bid again on the $10 million design and engineering contract.

The new bidding process is not expected to delay the 2004 start-up for the LNG plant.
