BLM releases environmental assessment for Wyoming gas area

Allen Baker

The Bureau of Land Management has released a final environmental assessment for the Jolly Roger Pod of the Atlantic Rim Project Area in Carbon County, Wyo. The assessment, released Sept. 1, is the last one for the Atlantic Rim area, which comprises more than 310,000 acres and could have up to 3,880 coalbed methane wells.

The Jolly Roger area has 3,926 acres and the environmental assessment recommends a total of 24 wells, with all produced water reinjected into the ground.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Warren Resources Inc. are the lead companies in the Atlantic Rim project area, where the two jointly hold rights on 133,300 net acres. The two companies agreed in 2002 to jointly explore the area and develop the coalbed methane there.

Comments on the environmental assessment for the Jolly Roger area can be submitted to the Rawlins office of the BLM until Oct. 1. The assessment is available online at www.wy.blm.gov/rfo/nepa.htm.
