Two tract wells drilling from Tarn
Two development wells being drilled from the Tarn 2L pad in the Kuparuk River Unit on Alaska’s North Slope are tract operations planned to evaluate two formations not currently producing.
A drilling permit for the KRU Tarn 2L-329 was issued Oct. 6. A sidetrack well was permitted Oct. 30. The KRU 2L-305 well was permitted Nov. 20.
Tarn operator ARCO Alaska Inc. told the state that the 2L-329 well is designed both “to further delineate the Bermuda formation in the Tarn reservoir and obtain information on the Arete formation in the Tarn reservoir.” The Bermuda formation is the portion of the Tarn reservoir currently being developed.
ARCO said that Arete overlies a portion of the Bermuda formation. The target depth of the 2L-329 well was 4,730 feet. ARCO said that depending on log results one of the zones, the Arete or the Bermuda, would be completed. The state approved 120 days of testing of the Arete interval. The 2L-305 targeted both the Bermuda and Iceberg intervals to obtain additional information on the Iceberg interval and further delineate the Bermuda formation.
ARCO said the 2L-305 well might include evaluating reservoir performance, fluid properties and completing the well for production tests. If that occurred, the fluids would be commingled with Tarn production at the 2L pad manifold building.
