PETROLEUM DIRECTORY: New alliance for gas sector training

The Gas Technology Institute and NExT (The Network of Excellence in Training) will provide a package of training programs for the natural gas industry, the groups announced Oct. 10.

NexT is a consortium that includes Schlumberger Oilfield Services and three major colleges that have expertise in the energy field — Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, Texas A&M University, and the University of Oklahoma. The Gas Technology Institute is an independent group that has provided training and other services to the industry for more than 60 years.

NExT and the institute said they will provide clients with training packages all along the gas production and distribution chain.

“By combining NExT’s experience and expertise in offering training on upstream topics and GTI’s world-renowned downstream courses and certification programs, we’re able to provide the energy industry with comprehensive professional development — from the wellhead to the burner tip,” says Michael Dugan. He’s executive director of education for the Gas Technology Institute.

The organizations will offer scheduled open-enrollment classes and sessions at client company facilities. There are also Internet-based self-study programs, as well as programs provided on CDs. Training can be customized for specific operations and procedures.
