Cook Inlet winter rules partially lifted

Petroleum News Alaska

The Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council said March 10 that the U.S. Coast Guard has rescinded special operating procedures for vessels transiting lower Cook Inlet, south of the Forelands, effective March 3, based on the reduction in ice and current weather conditions in southern Cook Inlet.

While the winter rules have been lifted for the industrial docks around Nikiski, the special operating procedures remain in effect for the Drift River terminal and waters north of the Forelands.

Questions concerning the winter rules should be directed to the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in Kenai at (907) 283-3292.
