PETROLEUM DIRECTORY: Radiation Detector from RAE Systems

RAE Systems Inc. is producing a radiation monitor for law enforcement and other security services that is waterproof, sensitive and inexpensive.

The GammeRAE II uses a sensitive cesium iodide scintillator to provide a quick response when radiation is present. The new device can be ordered now for $995, with shipments starting in April.

The sensor has audible and LED alarms, or can be set for vibration only. It can monitor dosage as well. It is designed for police, border officers, cargo port screeners and others dealing with potential radiation smuggling or threats.
