Buccaneer jack-up in Cook Inlet
The Endeavour — Spirit of Independence has arrived in Cook Inlet.
The jack-up rig pulled into the port of Homer on Aug. 24 aboard the Kang Sheng Kou heavy lift vessel, according to Buccaneer Energy Ltd., a partner on the project.
Endeavour will undergo some work and regulatory inspections in Homer before being towed its first location. Buccaneer described the remaining work as being “very minor.”
The Marathon LeTourneau 116-C jack-up rig left Singapore earlier this summer. While there, it underwent the majority of its upgrades and modifications for Alaska operations.
The rig will begin by drilling a well at the Buccaneer-operated North West Cook Inlet unit. The offshore unit is on the northern boundary of the North Cook Inlet unit.
Buccaneer also plans to use the rig at the Cosmopolitan prospect this fall and winter.
Having executed final closing documents earlier in the month, the Australian independent Buccaneer and its partner BlueCrest Energy Inc., a privately held independent out of Fort Worth, announced on Aug. 28 that they had also completed the financial portions of the deal. The companies acquired Cosmopolitan from Pioneer Natural Resources Alaska Inc.
Cosmopolitan is off the coast of the southern Kenai Peninsula, near Anchor Point.
