BP recertified for environmental management systems

BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. has achieved international recertification of the environmental management systems employed at almost all of the company’s Alaska operations. The single exception is the eastern half of the Prudhoe Bay field, where BP will seek ISO 14001 certification in early 2002.
“ISO 14001 is a rigorous international standard for companies that want to move beyond regulatory compliance to actually reducing their impact on the environment,” Richard Campbell, regional president for BP in Alaska, said April 18. “ISO 14001 certification requires continual improvement and a commitment to pollution prevention. Third party verification that our environmental management systems are working is an important step towards our goal of no accidents, no harm to people and no damage to the environment.”
Independent auditors employed by Det Norske Veritas recertified the Prudhoe Bay western operating area, the Endicott and Milne fields and the company’s exploration program after comprehensive review of the company’s environmental management programs and performance. The Badami field, the Northstar project and the Nikiski gas-to liquids project achieved ISO 14001 certification for the first time.
