Amerada Hess plugs and abandons Wembley well in deepwater Gulf

Amerada Hess’ Wembley No. 1 exploration well in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico failed to encounter commercial quantities of hydrocarbons, the company said April 4.

The Wembley well, on Mississippi Canyon block 722, reached a total depth of 29,212 feet and was plugged and abandoned, the company added.

Amerada Hess, operator of the Wembley well, said it would expense the pre-tax $65 million cost of the well in the first quarter of 2005.
