Pelican Hill looks at four possible west side drilling locations in Cook Inlet

Pelican Hill is continuing to evaluate leases it acquired on the west side of Cook Inlet in the Beluga and Tyonek areas at last September’s Mental Health Trust Lands Sale.

An industry source told PNA that Pelican Hill shot a 3-D seismic survey on some of these lands during the past winter season and that 3-D survey forms the basis for the evaluation and determination of potential drilling prospects.

The company has also acquired additional data that is being incorporated into its evaluations.

Beluga, Tyonek possible targets

Possible drilling locations are adjacent to the west side of the Beluga River gas field, north of the Beluga River and near Nicolai Creek gas field.

The primary target would be shallow gas zones, but the company is also considering deeper targets.

Pelican Hill plans additional 3-D seismic in the area to help determine drilling prospects in the structurally complex area. There are 2-D seismic surveys of the area, but PNA was told that wells drilled in the last 40 years west of the Beluga River gas field and based on 2-D seismic have not established sustained commercial production.
