U.S. Department of Energy still working on export license

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy is still working on the application for an extension of the natural gas export license held by Phillips Alaska Natural Gas Corp. and Marathon Oil Co. for the liquefied natural gas plant at Nikiski.

On March 4 the agency denied a motion from Union Oil Company of Calif. to update its comments in the contested proceeding.

The Department of Energy said it “does not believe the agency would ‘benefit from a freshening’ of matters fully briefed in the voluminous record already assembled in this proceeding.”

The Phillips-Marathon application to extend the export license by five years, through March 31, 2009, was filed Dec. 27, 1996.
