IADC names Colville as new head

The International Association of Drilling Contractors said Feb. 21 that Stephen A. Colville has been appointed president of the organization, following the retirement of Dr. Lee Hunt, who held the office for 22 years.

Colville has more than 30 years experience in corporate public affairs and government relations and previously served as vice president communications for Royal Dutch Shell’s projects and technology business. He was previously vice president communications for Royal Dutch Shell’s global gas business; Colville joined Shell in 2006.

Prior to that, Colville served in various management-level policy, government and public affairs positions for Chevron, which he joined in 1997.

He previously worked for seven years as an industry advocate in London and Brussels. Colville began his career in the UK Department of Trade and Industry in 1979.

IADC, founded in 1940, is dedicated to enhancing the interests of oil and gas and geothermal drilling contractors worldwide. The organization’s contract-drilling members own most of the world’s land and offshore drilling units. IADC members also include oil and gas producers and manufacturers and suppliers of oilfield equipment and services.
