Schlumberger to acquire Sensa, a fiber optic firm

Schlumberger Oilfield Services, a business segment of Schlumberger Ltd., said Sept. 6 that it has reached agreement in principle to acquire Sensor Highway Ltd. (trading as Sensa) a firm which provides fiber optic sensing technologies and applications in oil and gas wells.

Schlumberger said the acquisition adds a key element to the Schlumberger offering in the developing requirement for advanced completions and field automation.

“This acquisition will complement our developing capability to monitor and control, in real time, the key processes in wells and production systems that optimize the revenue stream, and increase ultimate reservoir recovery,” said Schlumberger Well Completions and Productivity President Peter Goode.

Schlumberger said that Sensa, based in the United Kingdom, and with offices in the major oil producing areas of the world, is the world leader in the design, manufacture and deployment of a new generation of fiber optic sensors which provide real-time data solutions to the oil and gas, process and power distribution industries.
