Shallow water surveys planned

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc.; ExxonMobil Production Co. and Phillips Alaska Inc., working as members of the North American Natural Gas Pipeline Group, have asked the National Marine Fisheries Service for an authorization to take small numbers of marine mammals by harassment incidental to conducting shallow hazard surveys this summer in the central and eastern Alaska Beaufort Sea.

Under the Marine Mammal Protection Act NMFS is requesting comments on its proposal to authorize to incidentally take, by harassment, small numbers of bowhead whales and other marine mammals in the U.S. Beaufort Sea during the open water period of 2001.
