Tesoro Petroleum Corp. said Feb. 16 that Gene Burden has been named president of Tesoro Alaska Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tesoro Petroleum.

Burden will be responsible for all manufacturing, marketing and distribution activities for Tesoro Alaska.

He was previously senior vice president of governmental relations for Tesoro, and had earlier been with Tesoro for 11 years in various positions including senior vice president of marketing and operations.

Burden will report to Bill Van Kleef, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Tesoro Petroleum.

“Gene’s familiarity with Alaska is expected to assist his management of Tesoro Alaska’s community and government relations,” Van Kleef said in a statement.

“And,” he said, “we will continue to rely on his expertise for Tesoro’s federal government relations.”

Burden said he welcomed the opportunity to return to Alaska.

“I am very pleased to be rejoining our Tesoro Alaska team and plan to immediately begin the process of getting reacquainted with current issues and opportunities that will contribute to additional success for our operations,” he said.

Burden holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington and a juris doctor degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He is a member of both the Alaska and Texas bar associations.
