Alaska Clean Water Actions awards $600,000 for cleaner water

The Alaska Clean Water Actions, known as ACWA, has awarded more than $600,000 in water quality grants to local governments, the University of Alaska, a traditional council, a Native corporation and citizen groups in Alaska.

ACWA consists of a partnership between the Alaska departments of environmental conservation; fish and game; and natural resources. The grants are intended to assist the state in its clean water objectives and to focus work efforts on waters in greatest need of protection and restoration.

“Clean water is important to Alaskans,” said Dan Easton, director of DEC’s water division. “These projects will help restore the quality of some waters and protect others where water quality is threatened. The ACWA process has been very successful in identifying water quality priorities and focusing our efforts where they are most needed.”
