British Petroleum apologizes to Crazy Horse family for name use

by The Associated Press

A South Dakota tribe has received an apology and a plaque from an energy company after using the Crazy Horse name.

Representatives from British Petroleum went to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in late June to apologize for the use of the warrior’s name on an oil project.

After Crazy Horse family members complained, the company dropped the name.

Seth Henry Big Crow Sr., who holds the Crazy Horse estate, said he appreciated the gesture and hopes other companies take note. The family is still fighting use of the Crazy Horse name on a malt liquor and a fashion line.
