A loosely organized group of 80-some friends, admirers and colleagues of renowned Alaska geologist Charles G. “Gil” Mull is very close to raising their goal of $25,000 for their Charles Gilbert Mull Field Camp Scholarship. The scholarship is for geology students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. It will allow students to attend a field geology course of their choice.

This project is spearheaded by UAF Geosciences Professor Michael Whalen. He can be contacted by email at [email protected].

Raising $25,000 as a minimum endowment will place the UAF scholarship in perpetuity.

As of Sept. 13, the group had raised $23,488. (See chart for this story in the online PDF.)

One of the group’s first major accomplishments was the June placement of a remembrance plaque in front of the Arctic Interagency Visitor Center in Coldfoot, on the southern slopes of the Brooks Range.

The plaque, which contained a brief bio of Gil, was placed on an existing wall in the rock garden that contained two sizable Kanayut formation boulders, a particularly beautiful rose-colored chert pebble conglomerate that records the erosion of an ancient mountain belt.

If you would like to join the group’s email list and obtain a list of their many projects, contact Tom Homza at [email protected],

Gil Mull passed away Oct. 4, 2021.

On Sept. 9 Gov. Mike Dunleavy named Deven Mitchell acting commissioner of the Alaska Department of Revenue.

Effective Sept. 12 Mitchell replaces outgoing Commissioner Lucinda Mahoney, who is leaving to refocus on her health and family.

He has also worked at several Alaska financial institutions and is currently on the board of directors of the Alaska Energy Authority.

Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University.

He and his wife Erin reside in Juneau where they raised their two sons.

Pantheon qualifies to trade on OTCOX

On Sept. 7 Pantheon Resources plc, the AIM listed oil and gas company with a 100% working interest via its Great Bear Pantheon-operated Alaska North Slope oil assets, qualified to trade on the OTCQX Best Market, having been upgraded from the Pink Market.

OTCQX is the highest quality tier of New York-based OTC Markets Group Inc, the operator of regulated markets for 12,000 U.S. and international securities.

Pantheon previously said that admission to the OTCQX will allow U.S. investors greater ability to access the company’s ordinary shares in U.S. dollars and during U.S. market hours, adding that it is not seeking a fundraising in conjunction with the process of applying to trade on OTCOX.
