State taking comments on Putu well

The state is taking comments on the proposed Putu exploration program.

ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc. plans to drill the Putu No. 1 well and Putu No. 1A sidetrack across two Kuukpik Corp. leases south of the current Colville River unit boundaries.

The state Department of Natural Resources is taking comments through Dec. 23.

Putu No. 1 would be a directional well on ADL 390674 and targeting a bottom-hole location on ADL 391015. Putu No. 1A would be a vertical sidetrack from the same starting location. The leases were recently part of the former Tofkat unit operated by Brooks Range Petroleum Corp. ConocoPhillips acquired the leases in the former unit earlier this year and is now seeking to incorporate them into the Colville River unit.

With proper approval, ConocoPhillips would drill the well and sidetrack this coming winter using the Doyon 141 rig, after completing ice road and ice pad construction.
