Gov. Bill Walker has named two new members to the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. board, and reappointed one sitting member.
The governor said Sept. 19 that Warren Christian of North Pole and David Wight of Anchorage will fill vacancies on the board; Hugh Short of Girdwood was reappointed.
“These three Alaskans possess experience, knowledge and resources that will prove vital as AGDC takes the lead to bring North Slope gas to the world market,” Walker said in a statement.
Christian will serve on the board until September 2018, filling the vacancy created by Luke Hopkins’ resignation in May, after Hopkins declared as a candidate for the Alaska Senate.
Wight and Short will serve five-year terms through September 2021. Wight replaces Rick Halford who did not seek reappointment. Halford was quoted by the Alaska Dispatch earlier in September as stating that he no longer believes the gas line project is economically viable and would not be seeking another term on the AGDC board.
Member background Wight, an Anchorage resident, holds a BS in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University. He served as president and CEO of Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. from 2000 to 2006. Prior to that he was president and chairman of BP Amoco Energy Company Trinidad and Tobago from 1992-2000 where he worked on the development and construction of an LNG facility in Trinidad.
Christian, a North Pole resident, is president of Doyon Associated LLC, which specializes in Arctic pipeline construction and associated infrastructure. He was previously president and general manager of ASRC Energy Services’ Houston Contracting Co. Christian received welder and pipefitter apprenticeship training through Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 375 in 1983.
Short, a Girdwood resident, was first appointed to the AGDC board in February 2015. He has been president and CEO of PT Capital since 2012; prior to that he was president/CEO and vice president of Alaska Growth Capital and vice president of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp. He has a BA in Political Science from UAA in 1997 and an MS in Organizational Development from Pepperdine University.
AGDC has a seven-member board, five public members and two commissioners.
The appointments require legislative confirmation.
