Conference to address Alaska themes

At the end of July several hundred people, including more than 100 expert speakers, will convene in Anchorage, Alaska, for the United States Association for Energy Economics annual conference. And, with the conference being held in Alaska for the first time, the conference organizers have paid particular attention to including topics of importance for Alaskans.

“We see it as just a great opportunity for the community to hear from some very smart people about issues of interest to Alaska,” conference program chair Roger Marks told Petroleum News.

Built around a theme of “industry meets government, the impact on energy use and development,” the conference will include topics such as energy development in the Arctic; oil and gas fiscal systems; Arctic transportation; natural gas and liquefied natural gas markets; managing resource wealth; and the role of government in the energy sector, Marks said.

Shale gas included

Specific topics include shale gas; wind energy; isolated power grids; and assessing how different oil and gas jurisdictions compete with each other. Under the theme of Arctic transportation there will be a talk about the shipment of oil by icebreaking tanker from an oil field in the Russian Arctic. There will be a special workshop on gas hydrates at the end of the conference.

The United States Association for Energy Economics is a professional association with more than 1,000 members from government, the scientific community, academia and business. It is affiliated with the International Association for Energy Economics, with 4,000 members from more than 100 countries. The United States Association’s annual conference provides attendees with opportunities for discussion and debate over topics of importance to energy development, production and use — many attendees at the conference in Alaska will travel from out of state.

The conference will take place from July 28 to July 31. Information about the conference can be obtained on the conference website at www.usaee.org/USAEE2013 or by calling Roger Marks at (907) 250-1197 or [email protected].
