CIE to grind, inject Osprey drill waste
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is proposing to issue Cook Inlet Energy LLC a permit to operate a drilling waste disposal system on the company’s Osprey offshore platform.
The grind-and-inject unit would support drilling operations on Osprey, the southernmost oil and gas production platform in Cook Inlet.
Anchorage-based Cook Inlet Energy acquired the shut-in platform in late 2009 and has been active in reworking damaged wells. The company also has signaled plans to drill new wells.
The proposed grind-and-inject unit will be installed on the top deck of the Osprey, located about nine miles due west of Nikiski, DEC said in a Dec. 10 online public notice.
The unit will treat drilling waste and send it underground via an injection well, DEC said.
The agency invites public comment on the project. The deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 8.
