Mid-September energy conferences run back to back at Sheraton

Two energy conferences are scheduled for mid-September at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel. The Alaska Energy Summit, organized by London-based IBC Global Conferences, and the West Coast-Alaska-Russian Far East Working Group, an event coordinated by federal and state agencies. (see brief this page.)
The Alaska Energy Summit will be held Sept. 16 and 17.
Speakers include Pat Pourchot, commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and Mark Myers, director of the Division of Oil and Gas, as well as speakers from BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc., Forest Oil Corp. and Marathon Oil Co.
Topic areas to be covered include:
• Examining Alaska’s status for meeting the energy demand of the Lower 48 and other markets
• Developments and prospects for further oil and gas exploration in Alaska
• Oil development and the environment in Alaska
• The financing challenges for the North Slope natural gas
• Cook Inlet — Future potential for oil & gas development
• National Petroleum Reserve drilling plans
• Progress on plans for outer continental shelf oil and gas leasing program 2002-2007
Following the two-day conference, there will be a one-day seminar focusing on the “engineering and operational challenges of working in Arctic regions” with speakers discussing key issues in permitting, design, construction, pipelines, drilling and maintenance for the oil and gas industry.
