Prudhoe pad expansion, addition, in works

Petroleum News

Hilcorp North Slope, the Prudhoe Bay unit operator, has received approval from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources' Division of Oil and Gas for boreholes in ADL 28239, on the western side of the unit, the location of the unit's western satellites.

The Feb. 28 approval amends the unit plan of operations to allow drilling of 12 boreholes near L Pad and a proposed pad, O Pad, the division said.

The boreholes will be 150 feet deep and 4 inches in diameter. A sonic drill rig, sled and Steiger will be used in the project, which the division said was scheduled to begin March 1.

L Pad and the proposed O Pad are some 16 miles southeast of Oliktok Point.

A map accompanying the approval shows six boreholes extending south from the southern side of the existing L Pad, with the map appearing to outline a pad extension. The map shows the proposed Omega Pad location west of L Pad.
