Arctic Oil & Gas Directory: NAC leases space for charter passenger terminal

The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said July 2 that Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has entered into a lease agreement with Northern Air Cargo for aeronautical use of space at the former Kulis Air National Guard base, located at 5005 Raspberry Road. NAC is the first air operator to make use of the opportunity to lease the space.

Northern Aviation Services, a division of NAC, has reconfigured the building that once served as the mess hall and kitchen, transforming it into a first class charter terminal for the use of their client, Shell Alaska Exploration. The facility will be supporting transportation of Shell’s employees and contractors during the summer offshore exploration season. NAC has also chartered a Boeing 737-400 passenger aircraft from Miami Air which will be based at Kulis.

“We’re very fortunate that the airport has this type of facility available to meet the needs of the aviation industry and that of our expanding customer base. We believe the transfer of Kulis to the state, and subsequent availability to private sector will facilitate new growth at the Anchorage Airport,” said David Karp, NAC’s president and CEO.
