West Cameron well under control

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

Miami, Fla.-based Forcenergy Inc. said March 27 that the West Cameron Block 317 No. 1 well that had experienced a natural gas blowout during completion operations was fully under control and completion operations had resumed as of midnight March 24.

The gas blowout occurred March 22 at the exploratory well some 65 miles south of Lake Charles, La., in the Gulf of Mexico. The company said all personnel were safely evacuated from Marine Drilling Rig No. 4.

The blowout was a dry gas well and Forcenergy said that no pollution was observed. The blowout did not ignite and well control specialists were called in to bring the well under control.

Forcenergy’s primary areas of operation are the Gulf of Mexico and Cook Inlet.
