PETROLEUM DIRECTORY: Schlumberger marks 60 years in Brazil

Schlumberger is marking the 60th anniversary of its first wireline log in Brazil, run on Dec. 25, 1945. That was at the Candeias field in northeast Brazil’s Bahia. The work was done for Conselho Nacional do Petroleo do Brasil, the government department that was responsible for oil and gas development at the time.

“The oil and gas industry in Brazil has continued to develop over the years and we are proud to be part of this history of development,” said Ideraldo Goulart, general manager, Brazil, Schlumberger. “The implementation of new technologies, the training of our employees, the care with the environment, the contribution in the development of communities where we act, and the commitment to research and development for improvement of our performance and our customer’s results, are part of our history in the country.” Schlumberger currently has seven operational bases in Brazil, with about 1,100 employees from 30 nationalities. More than 85 percent of the workers are Brazilian nationals.
