Coast Guard recertifies Cook Inlet RCAC

The Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council has been recertified.

The council said the U.S. Coast Guard recertified the group Sept. 14 as an alternative voluntary advisory group under subsection 5002(o) of the Oil Pollution Terminal and Oil Tanker Environmental Oversight and Monitoring Act of 1990, commonly referred to as OPA 90.

“This action validates our efforts toward creating wide and strong partnerships between the community, the oil and transport industries, and the regulatory agencies,” said CIRCAC President John Williams, referring to 14 letters of support submitted on the council’s behalf.

CIRCAC was formed by OPA 90 after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Its mission is to represent the citizens of Cook Inlet in promoting environmentally safe marine transportation and oil facility operations in Cook Inlet.
