BOEM extends Liberty comment period

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said Nov. 17 that it has extended by 60 days the comment scoping period for the Liberty development and production plan.

The comment period is associated with BOEM’s notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for Liberty which is in the Beaufort Sea planning area.

The notice of intent to prepare an EIS was issued Sept. 25. BOEM said the EIS will analyze the plan’s potential environmental effects and provide opportunity for public comment. The agency said it will not make a decision to approve, disapprove or require modifications to the plan until after completion of the EIS.

The original 60-day comment period ends Nov. 24. The 60-day extension ends Jan. 26.
