Seamount reappointed to AOGCC
Commissioner Dan Seamount has been reappointed to the geologist seat on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission by Gov. Bill Walker. Seamount was named to fill remaining years on that seat in January 2000 and was reappointed to full six-year terms in 2005 and 2011. His current reappointment is effective March 1 and runs through March 1, 2023.
Now in his 17th year of service, Seamount is the longest-serving commissioner in AOGCC history, a distinction previously held by Commissioner Tom Marshall, also a geologist, who served 16 years, 1962-78.
Prior to his appointment to the commission Seamount was a senior advising geologist for Unocal, working Cook Inlet. He had previously worked for Marathon and Chevron. Seamount holds bachelors and master’s degrees in geology from the University of California at Riverside.
Commissioners are confirmed by the Legislature and this session legislators will also be asked to confirm Hollis French, appointed by Walker to fill the public seat in July. Hollis, a former state senator from Anchorage, worked in the oil and gas industry in Alaska before earning his law degree from Cornell Law School.
The commission chair, Cathy Foerster, holds the petroleum engineer seat. Foerster’s appointment has two years to run, and she told House Resources earlier in February that she will not be seeking reappointment.
