Bisson named new state director for BLM

Bureau of Land Management Director Kathleen Clarke has named Henri Bisson as BLM’s new Alaska state director. He replaces Francis ‘Fran’ Cherry who was named May 8 as BLM’s deputy director for operations in the bureau’s national office in Washington, D.C.
Bisson will report to Alaska later this summer, the agency said May 15.
Since 1998 Bisson has been BLM’s assistant director of renewable resources and planning in Washington, D.C., responsible for fisheries, forestry, recreation, cultural resources, land use planning, National Environmental Policy Act compliance and services provided by BLM’s National Science and Technology Center in Denver, Colo.
Bisson has been with BLM for 25 years and has held management positions in California, Arizona, Colorado and Washington, D.C. He has been responsible for permitting for major mining operations and interstate pipelines and land management plans.
Bisson worked on Alaska program and budget issues during a previous assignment in BLM’s Washington office and in 1983 served as an intern to Congressman Don Young.
Bisson as a bachelor of science degree in forestry from the University of New Hampshire and a master of science degree in watershed management from the University of Arizona.
