Pemex awards contract to Norwegian driller

Gary Park

Petroleum News Calgary correspondent

State-owned Pemex has opened its doors a shade more by awarding an offshore drilling contract to Dolphin Drilling, a subsidiary of Norwegian contractor Fred Olsen Energy.

Fred Olsen said two semi-submersible drilling units will be moved from the North Sea this fall — Borgny Dolphin to launch a four-year contract in January 2004 and Bulford Dolphin to start a two-year deal in February 2004.

The combined contract value for the two rigs is $126 million, including mobilization and demobilization fees, Fred Olsen said.
