Imperial says it’s not ready for hearings

Canada’s National Energy Board sent a letter to the Mackenzie Gas Project July 7, inquiring about comments made by Imperial’s representatives that various issues need to be addressed before hearings.

The board said it was contemplating a pre-hearing conference in late August, but wanted to know whether Imperial expected to be ready to proceed before it set proposed hearing dates.

CBC News reported July 14 that Imperial responded July 13, telling the board it has to continue negotiating with other parties.

An Imperial spokesman said there were still issues to resolve, including how much money aboriginal groups will get for allowing the pipeline to cross their land.
