Nuiqsut Spur Road comment extended

The comment period for the Nuiqsut Spur Road, the 5.8-mile connection between Nuiqsut and the proposed CD-5 road, has been extended to July 22.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it received a request from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for more information which the applicant is obtaining.

The road is being permitted by Kuukpik Corp., the village corporation for Nuiqsut and will provide increased subsistence user access to subsistence resources, provide mitigation for potential impacts from CD-5 development and future satellite development and allow villagers the opportunity for increased employment and business opportunities at the ConocoPhillips Alaska-operated Alpine field.

CD-5 will be the first production in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska and crude oil from CD-5 will be sent to Alpine for processing.
