Knowles to serve second term as head of IOGCC

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

Alaska Gov. Tony Knowles was elected to a second term as chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, the first governor since 1945 to serve as the organization’s chairman for consecutive years.

The IOGCC elected its 2001 officers June 13 during its midyear meeting in Lexington, Ky.

Philip Asprodites, Louisiana Commissioner of Conservation, was chosen second vice chairman. Tony Garza of the Railroad Commission of Texas and IOGCC second vice chairman, will move up to vice chairman in 2001.

The new officers will assume their duties during the organization’s 2000 annual meeting Dec. 3-5 in San Antonio. The meeting, “Domestic Natural Gas and Oil: Challenges for the New Millennium,” will focus on how the United States can use domestic oil and natural gas to meet its growing energy needs.
