Fairbanks voters to decide on gas plan

Voters in the Fairbanks borough will decide on a proposed plan to truck natural gas from the North Slope to Alaska’s second largest city.

The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly has decided to seek voter approval of the plan.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the Assembly voted to put the issue to voters on the October ballot. They will be asked if the Alaska Gasline Port Authority should be allowed to buy Fairbanks Natural Gas and to truck gas to Fairbanks.

The Assembly decided in March to appropriate $300,000 for a viability study of the plan only if voters say “yes” to the trucking plan.
