Feds officially route neutral

Kristen Nelson

A gasline from Alaska to the Lower 48 is part of the Bush administration's national energy plan, Drue Pearce, senior advisor for Alaskan affairs to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, told the Resource Development Council Sept. 20.

Pearce, a member of the national gas taskforce led by the Department of Energy, said that the taskforce is route neutral.

But, she noted, the Department of the Interior is not recommending any changes in federal law to facilitate the pipeline.

The Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline Act is still in force, and that act specifies a route down the oil pipeline corridor and then along the Alaska Highway into Canada.
