The West Coast-Russian Far East Ad Hoc Working Group was formed in late 1994 by the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission’s Business Development Committee. The Joint Commission on Economic and Technological Cooperation created the working group, at the suggestion of President Yeltsin, to recognize and encourage special trade relations between the U.S. West Coast and the Russian Far East.
The group was established under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to bring the regions together in a public-private sector dialog to tackle impediments to bilateral economic activity and encourage commercial cooperation.
