No USGS determination on source
Petroleum News
The article titled “Looking at it again” in the June 24 issue of Petroleum News incorrectly states that U.S. Geological Survey research suggests that oil in the ConocoPhillips Willow prospect may have come from a source rock called the HRZ or from a Jurassic source. Although there is speculation that the light nature of the Willow oil and its possible subsurface migration route suggest these sources, the USGS has not made a determination of the likely source rock for Willow, Paul Decker from Alaska’s Division of Oil and Gas has told Petroleum News.
