Point Thomson on schedule for start-up in early 2007

On Nov. 21, the man in charge of ExxonMobil’s operations in Alaska updated attendees of the Resource Development Council for Alaska’s annual conference in Anchorage on the status of the Point Thomson project.

Jack Williams said the environmental impact statement for the eastern North Slope project “is completed on schedule and the state permitting process runs in parallel, then the Point Thomson owners will be a position to make a decision to proceed with development during the first quarter of 2004.

“If the project is given a green light, then our hope is to start up in early 2007 and reach peak project rates of about 75,000 barrels a day of condensate about a year later.”

Williams said “the pace is not as fast as fast as we’d like, and many challenges lie ahead,” but progress has been made in the last year. “A year from now I hope to be up here telling you that the draft EIS has received public comment and efforts have begun on a final EIS. Such, again, that we could make a final decision in the first quarter of 2004.”
